Chief of Police Position

The City of Mannington is accepting applications for the position of Chief of Police.  Responsibilities include supervising all police department personnel, assigning and supervising work, assessing budgetary and departmental needs, evaluating the performance of all employees in the police department, working cooperatively with the mayor and other departments, presenting monthly reports to City Council.  Knowledge of current law enforcement methods, due process requirements, and state and federal reporting mandates.  Ability to pass a physical examination, drug screening test and criminal background check. Record of effective interaction with public groups, individuals, and law enforcement agencies.  Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Computer literacy. Police supervisory experience is preferred.  The chief shall be responsible for the administration, training, discipline and morale of the personnel of the Department and for their effective and efficient employment to prevent crime, apprehend law violators, protect persons and property, maintain law and order and enforce state law, City Code and other ordinances within the City.   Applicants must be 18 years of age, have a duly authorized and accredited high school diploma (or GED), must be certified through the WV State Police Academy, have a valid WV driver’s license and no criminal record plus maintain residence within a fifteen-mile radius of Mannington.
