Mannington Swimming Pool
On June 1927 the City of Mannington, through grass root
fundraising efforts, purchased eight and one-half acres from
the heris of the late Mary Jane Hough for $6,000. Pool
construction began on June 26, 1930. On the morning
of August 27, more than 300 men assembled at the pool site and
in less than ten hours the group managed to pour, tamp and
dress 310 feet of concrete to construct 12 inch walls ranging
from 16 inches to nine feet in height. With much more
work and dedication to the cause, the pool finally opened on
July 2, 1931 to a capacity crowd.
The Mannington Pool now features a separate two to
three foot kiddy pool as well as an adjoining three foot pool
that gradually increases to ten feet with a diving
board. Showers and restroom facilities are
available. A concession stand is also on the
premises. All lifeguards are Red Cross certified in both
rescue as well as adult and infant CPR.
